Live More; Spend Less!
This should be your mantra if you’re an active camper. What’s the use of going on a camping trip, if by the end of it you have your pockets completely drained out of money?
The best thing about a camping trip is that you can make the most out of it without spending too much. Well, you’ll obviously need the basics like your packs for camping, the camping gear, and other things – but you can still save on plenty of things.
Here’s how you can do that:
- First things first, be wise about planning your trip. Avoid the peak seasons. This will help you stay away from crowded camping grounds and you may even find camping space for much cheaper than what it costs during the peak season.
- Stay away from the camp stores. Don’t leave things like snacks and charcoal for the end because you can still get them from the camp store. They charge you a premium price for everything! Make sure your backpacks include everything you need before you set out.
- Rent what you can and go primitive. If you’re not a frequent camper, buying camping gear is not a feasible option for you. Instead, you’re better off renting the tents and other equipment for far less than what you’d pay for buying them. Also, with things like a fire pit – it’s always better to buy wood and build up a fire than pay extra just for the sake of it.
- Many campgrounds offer a range of outdoor activities for a price. You can skip all that expense by bringing your own fun. We suggest you go unplugged. Get a Frisbee, a deck of cards, a book, or a musical instrument that you play. There are so many things that you can do without spending money.
- Food is important too. Plan your meals in the most budget friendly way. Think of vegetables, hot dogs, ground meat, jerky, s’mores. The idea is to add food items that are inexpensive, filling, and easy-to-cook, in your packs for camping. This will keep your expenses down without compromising on your meal requirements.
- Water is yet another essential that costs you a lot of money if you’re buying it off the rack. What we suggest you do instead, is to fill water gallons at home and carry them along with you to the camping site. Another thing you could do is find a camping site near a water source like a lake, river, or waterfall. That should keep you supplied.
- Don’t go camping alone. This one is for you if you don’t have a family. Gather a bunch of friends who like camping and then camp as a group. This will spread the camping costs and each person’s share would be much lower than what they would have to pay if they went camping alone.
That’s all we have for you today. We’ll be bringing in more tips and hacks related to camping, hiking, and backpacking for you in the future. Till then, why don’t you pack your lightweight backpacks and set off for your next camping trip!
